REVIEW : Sainted Sinners -- Back With A Vengeance (2018, El Puerto Records GbR)

Just one year after the release of their debut album, Sainted Sinners are back with a brand new opus which is entitled "Back With A Vengeance". The debut, "Sainted Sinners", was a damn fine record full of some classic hard rock stuff and with David Reece's voice on top form.

The band, except David Reece on lead vocals, consists of guitar player Frank Pané (BONFIRE), Malte Frederik Burkert (bass) and the Hungarian drum maestro Berci Hirleman.

"We were aiming for a more guitar heavy approach this time and also a warmer, more ballsy sound", explains Frank Pané and David Reece adds "Life’s a bitch for most of us and it gives me plenty to write about".

The opening tune of "Rise Like A Phoenix" is simply a great track all the way. Classic hard rock sound with Reece's vocals on front row and with a tight as hell rhythm section this song grabs you at once. The influences from bands such as Rainbow and Dio are obvious but that doesn't bother me at all 'cause this one rocks big time! With "Burnin' The Candle" the band delivers yet another killer song. More Bangalore Choir-esque this time with a catchier hook and chorus "Burnin' The Candle" is among the standouts out of the new opus.  "Back With A Vengeance" reminds me a bit of early Van Halen while in "Nothing Left To Lose" we are dealing with, again, another solid hard rock tune.  "Let It Go", the classic "When The Hammer Falls" (where you can hear the Deep Purple "pinches') and "Gone But Not Forgotten" are all three excellent samples of classic rock music all the way.

I really enjoyed Sainted Sinners debut album a lot. But with their second effort, "Back With A Vengeance", the band is literally back with a vengeance! Classic hard rock sound with more feeling in it, better songs and with Reece's soulful voice to fill each and every moment here, this album is a must have for every serious rock fan out there.

Rating : 8,7/10
